Name File Notes
Railroad Scale Speed Calculator html Record time over measured distance and calculate the scale speed. from stoneysmith.com
Scale Dimension Converter html Convert dimensions up and down from full size to a scale of your choosing. Input in feet and/or inches or millimeters and the output in inches or millimeters. This runs in your web browser.

Scale Speed Calculator 2-36 mph

Scale Speed Calculator 2-60 mph

xlsx A spreadsheet with time to travel a specified distance at various scale MPH. You can enter your own if you wish. Based on a SS from Gaugemaster.com
Scale Speeds per Seconds xlsx A spreadsheet listing a scale MPH from the seconds to travel the specified distance. Print it as is or adjust the timing or distance to suit. Click for a guide to speed matching your locomotive decoders.
Car Weight Calculator xlsx A spreadsheet with calculations for the weight of cars per the NMRA RP-20.1 (rev Jan 1990)
Prototype 2 Scale Dimension Chart xlsx This spreadsheet is a handy reference to have for modeling. Select your scale in the pull-down and find the scale equivalent of prototype inches from 0-60. For a dynamic tool, see the "Scale Dimension Converter" above.
Spiral Easement Calculator for Track Construction xlsx A spreadsheet to calculate the spiral easements from tangent to curved track. Enter your curve radius and the desired length of the spiral; the sheet will generate 10 offset layout points. See tab "notes" for additional information.
Calculate a "no radius curve" where the delta angle is small and conventional easement spirals won't fit. xlsx

As above, this spreadsheet will calculate an easement from the tangent (straight) track to the mid point of a small angle curve. Used back ot back, these gradually changing offset points ease into and out of the curve.
Enter your delta angle and the length to the intersection point.

Build you own Trammel Bar. pdf Details for a homemade trammel bar to use for the layout of track radiuses and any other circular layouts.
